Experiential ticketing platform Expian has appointed Andreas Krohn, former head of IT at Swedish-Danish ferry operator ForSea Ferries, to develop next-generation access technology. Andreas will be responsible for IT strategy, product development and cybersecurity at Expian. He will also work directly with clients and potential clients to develop a booking system that supports their business development.
With more than 25 years of experience in computer programming and IT development, Andreas will be instrumental in driving business value from Expian’s product and scaling the business. During his time at ForSea, Andreas was responsible for building a new IT department and team and purchasing business-critical systems, including booking technologies. He first met Expian, formerly known as Ticknovate, when purchasing a new ticketing service for Forsea Ferries and was impressed by the team’s cutting-edge technology and ability to design a dynamic new platform that delivers experience-based packages could manage.
Entrance fees are an important source of income for attractions, event organizers and ferry companies. Therefore, a capable booking system is necessary for success. For too many operators, failing legacy systems make it challenging for staff to manage and disrupt the customer journey. Together with the wider Expian team, Andreas will help operators rethink their admission and ticketing processes and integrate them into the business so that it simplifies administration and generates more revenue.
A programmer through and through, Andreas has an MSc in Computer Science and has worked as an API consultant for over 15 years, an invaluable experience for developing a fully integrated digital infrastructure. From mapping the customer journey to understanding pain points and how booking information is used by different departments, Andreas will guide leisure attractions and ferry companies through the digital transformation of their access function. His skills will see Expian work with other business-critical solutions, including existing accounting software, reporting tools and third-party suppliers.
Yiannis Maglaras, CEO of Expian, says: “Having worked with Andreas when he was at Forsea Ferries, we are pleased to welcome him to the team. He has been through the booking technology procurement process and brings new perspectives on opportunities to improve the process.
“Andreas’ technical excellence, API expertise and in-house experience will undoubtedly make him an asset to our team. He is familiar with the challenges our customers face internally and speaks their business language, allowing us to build stronger relationships and help more customers benefit from the experience economy. Moreover, he is a nice guy to work with!”
Andreas Krohn, Chief Technology Officer at Expian, says: “I have always admired Yiannis and the Expian team’s passion for finding smart ways to improve the booking experience and for creating a market-beating platform that meets a real need. Working in the ferry industry, I understand the complexity of the booking process and current software limitations. Plus, as an avid traveler, I also know how frustrating it can be to book tickets.
“Too many operator booking systems prevent these businesses from thriving because they lack the ability to sell, manage complex product inventory and use dynamic pricing models. Yet Expian is changing this. I look forward to helping our clients and leisure providers analyze the admissions process, identify roles that suit their business needs and unlock opportunities to drive more revenue and streamline processes.”
